  Glossary of stair lift terms
 
Below are a list of explanations of some of the terms used throughout this website.  Click on the text link underneath the word Feature to reveal the benefits to you.

Feature
"On/off" switch
  A 'red/white' switch located at the end of the arm.
Function
To switch your stairlift on and off. A green light indicates that the stairlift is on and ready to move.

"On-charge" light
  A yellow light on the arm.
Function
When the stairlift is parked correctly it will charge. If the stairlift is charging a yellow "on-charge" light will come on

Adjustable seat height

Seat height can be adjusted to suit your needs

Automatic swivel seat
 
Function
At the top of the stairs you can automatically swivel the seat to face the landing using the stairlift controls.

Basic centre fastening seatbelt

A seatbelt with centre fastening.

Function
A retractable seatbelt with a centre clasp that retracts safely away when not in use.

Chair key
  It is located under the arm.
Function
It allows you to lock the stairlift "off". The stairlift cannot be used unless the key is inserted and switched "on".

A devise to ensure a smoother, slower start and stop.

Diagonal side-fastening seatbelt
  A seat belt which goes across your whole body.
Function
The seatbelt has a side fastening and retracts safely away when not in use.

Easy folding
 
Function
A link connecting one of the arms to the footrest so that by folding the arm, the footrest automatically folds up too.

  Lever located at side of your chair

To fold the footrest up or down.

Five point seatbelt
 
Function
A seat belt which has five fastening points- around waist, over shoulders and between legs, to fully support across your entire upper body.

Hinged rail section (Powered control)
 
Function
A hinged section of the stairlift rail(Found at the bottom of the rail which can be raised or lowered by using the special remote controls. This allows you to move the hinged section of rail out of the way when not in use, to prevent the stairlift causing a possible obstruction ie, in doorways.

Master power switch
  Located on the back or front of your carriage dependant on the model you have.
Function
To completely isolate the batteries, so that no electrical current is drawn.

'Power-on' light
  A green light on the arm.
Function
When the stirlift is turned "on", the green light comes on telling you that the stairlift is ready to use.

Remote Controls
  Controls located at the top and bottom of the staircase.
Function
The stair lift can be operated from the top or bottom of the staircase.

Safety sensors
  Sensored pads around the footrest and carriage.
Function
Certain areas of the stairlift have special sensors that can detect an obstruction ie. something on the stairs. If an obstruction is detected the stairlift will automatically stop.
