Nationwide stairlift grants and funding options
The National Benefit Authority
The Canadian government has disability tax credits, disability tax benefits and other grants that are available for people with disabilities The National Benefit Authority is an organization that was built to help you with claims filed for disability benefits.
Disability Tax Credits
The government wants Canadians living with disabilities to enjoy a similar lifestyle to those living without disabilities. They recognize that a disability can be financially taxing so they grant these funds to help alleviate the additional expenses. However, what you do with the funds is up to you – you can purchase specialized medical equipment, pay off debt or take that long deserved vacation. Once you are deemed eligible for the DTC, the amount the government allocates for each tax year is the same for everyone regardless of the disability.
Veterans Independence Program
The Veterans Independence Program (VIP) helps you remain independent and self-sufficient in your home and your community. Depending on your circumstances and health needs you may qualify for financial assistance to help you carry out home adaptations (changes to your home to allow you to carry out everyday activities).
The MS Society
The MS Society offers two types of funding; equipment purchase and permanent loan, as well as special assistance programs. Although funding programs vary from province-to-province, it could be worth getting in touch with your local MS society representatives if you suffer from MS, as funding could be available to help you fund your stairlift.
