Professional Stair Lift Installation for Safe Home Accessibility
A Stairlift installation doesn’t involve extensive building work. One day is all it takes to get your whole house back. No mess. No fuss.

No building work? Then how are stairlifts installed?
A stairlift attaches to your stairs, not the wall. That means no damage to your walls and very little disruption to your home. You won’t need planning permission and you don’t need to worry about taking up your carpet for a chairlift or stairlift installation.
What happens during a Stairlift installation?
The installation itself should only take a couple of hours. It is a quick process that won’t cause too much disruption to you or your home.
You can be home during the stairlift installation, and you can even watch our friendly technicians as they work. The only thing to consider is if you’re sensitive to dust. If you are, you might not want to be too near your stairs as there is some light drilling involved in the process but rest assured we’ll always clean up after we’re finished. It’s all over very quickly, and before you know it, you’ll have your independence back.
The average time taken for a stairlift installation is:
4 hours
When we talk about your stairlift installation, we want to make sure you know it’s not just a turnkey project. We go one step further in making sure you’re 100% confident you know how to use your stairlift safely and comfortably before we leave your house.
We don’t do things by halves.
What happens after my stairlift is installed?
When our technicians are done with the installation they give you back your house just the way they found it. But with one added benefit: your independence.
After the installation
What happens after my stairlift is installed?
Once your stairlift is safely installed, our engineers give you a thorough demonstration to show you exactly how to use it. They want to make sure you are completely safe and comfortable using your new purchase – and won’t leave until you’ve got the routine down.
You’ll be surprised how well it fits into your home, and when it’s neatly folded away, there’ll still be space for other people to use the stairs.

Stairlift Installation Requirements
How should I prepare for a stairlift installation?
Remove photos or plant pots from the stairs
Before the technicians come to install your stairlift, you should look for obstructions on the stairway. The sales consultant will have made a note of things like window sills and heating pipes, but if you have plant pots or photos in the way of where your stairlift will be, you should remove them to help the technicians.
Take pictures of the stairs before installation
If you’re concerned about damage being done to your house, you could take a picture of the stairs before installation for added peace of mind, but our technicians are always very careful and clean up after themselves; so the only difference you should spot is your new stairlift.
Plugs near the staircase
The only requirement for a stairlift is a plug near the staircase to plug the lift into (this is checked during your initial home visit). Your stairlift runs on batteries, but plugging it into the outlet ensures that they’re constantly charging. If there is a power outage, you won’t get stuck on your stairs, your lift will keep working to keep you safe.
We want to get your stairlift fitted as soon as possible to get rid of the stress and fear your stairs used to inspire, and get you feeling unstoppable. As soon as you order your lift, we’ll try to schedule the most convenient time for you, and fit your stairlift to give you your independence back.

Need a Contact-free installation?
For those who have an immediate need for a stairlift, but want to limit personal contact with others, we offer contact-free installations. That means minimizing direct interactions, maintaining social distance standards and utilizing protective gear. Here are some of the steps we take during our contact-free installation process.
- Our installer will notify you before arrival. Before the technician arrives, we’ll call, so you can leave the door open and wait in a nearby room.
- Installers are equipped with gloves, safety masks, and disinfectant wipes.
- We’ll follow social distancing guidelines throughout the installation, answering any questions you might have from a safe distance.
- After your installation has been completed, we’ll thoroughly wipe down your stairlift, making sure it is clean and ready for use.
- Next, we’ll demonstrate how to use your stairlift at a safe distance or you can schedule a remote demonstration later.
- Where possible, we offer digital documents, rather than traditional handover paperwork.
- Company vehicles are wiped down regularly, especially in the high-touch areas.
- Although they’ll be wearing gloves in your home, all employees have been instructed to wash their hands frequently.
- Our installers are also taking common-sense measures at home to limit their exposure.
- Any employee showing symptoms of illness or feeling unwell will be asked to stay home.

Why do I need a stair survey?
Every home is different—an in-home stair survey ensures that your stairlift is the perfect fit for both you and your home. It lets our advisor see your staircase in person, discuss your needs, and make sure your stairlift is tailored just for you. It’s the easiest way to get a safe, accurate, and personalized quote.
Isn’t there a standard quote you can give me?
Your staircase, your needs, and your choices all affect the cost. A standard price quote wouldn’t reflect the exact measurements, layout, or features you need—so it could easily be misleading. Since a one-size-fits-all approach wouldn’t give you a fair or accurate price, we take the time to assess your home and provide a personalized quote you can trust. An in-home survey is the only way to ensure your quote is honest, accurate, and tailored to you.
Do I need to have building work done?
Installing a stairlift is quick and easy, with no messy construction or home remodeling required. Our team fits the rail to your stairs, leaving your walls and décor completely untouched. Installation is clean and efficient because a stairlift mounts to the steps rather than the walls. Most installations are completed in just a few hours with minimal disruption to your home.
How does the Stannah warranty work?
Our warranty is industry-leading. Stannah provides a lifetime warranty for vital components on new stairlifts purchased directly from us, such as the motor, gearbox, and rail. For all other parts, a 2-year standard warranty is provided. Labor charges for the first year are also included. Stannah provides the most comprehensive stairlift warranty out there.
Why don’t you state the price of your stairlifts?
We don’t post prices because no two staircases or customers are alike. Our stairlifts are made to fit you and your stairs, so we can only give you a price once we’ve seen both. Your quote is personalized to your home, ensuring you get the right stairlift at a fair and accurate price, with no surprises later.
Does your call-out service cover all areas of the US?
Stannah customer service is built on reliability and responsiveness — whenever you need support, we’re just a phone call away in all areas where we operate directly. Our trusted dealers provide call-out service in all other areas of the United States. Our service team handles everything from maintenance and repairs to general questions, ensuring your stairlift keeps running smoothly and giving you peace of mind. Because your satisfaction matters, we strive to be helpful, transparent, and caring in every interaction.
