Dr Punam Krishan is a Scottish practising NHS GP who has most recently become known for her appearance in BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing in 2024. She partnered with professional dancer Gorka Márquez and made it to the eleventh week of the competition. Her couple’s choice traditional Bollywood routine, was seen as a huge moment for cultural visibility and brought Bollywood to the ballroom for the first time.
She graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2006 and initially worked in a medical partnership before transitioning to become a locum GP. Her experiences inspired her to become an advocate for diversity, inclusion, mental health and lifestyle medicine. This has led her to become a director and trustee for the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. Krishan also contributes to medical education as an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Glasgow.
Dr Krishan has an established and diverse media presence. Serving as the resident doctor on BBC's "Morning Live" she also regularly contributes to BBC Radio Scotland's "Phone In Surgery” where she addresses a wide range of health and lifestyle topics. In addition to her media work, Dr Krishan is an accomplished writer and podcaster, with contributions to publications such as Vogue, Hello, and Grazia.
