Stairlifts to make life easier
Whether you want to regain your independence or simply feel confident again using your stairs, a Stannah stairlift is the perfect choice

Staircases explained

The most common type of staircase. Straight staircases are those with no turns, landing, or bends in them, and will require a straight stairlift installation.

A staircase with turns can encompass anything from spiral to fanned or half and quarter landings. These staircases require bespoke stairlifts to fit the exact proportions of your staircase.

Buying a Stannah stairlift
Chairlift or stairlift. What’s the difference?
Sometimes stairlifts are referred to as chairlifts. For most people, a chairlift would be something associated with a ski resort or possibly an amusement park. Sometimes lifts designed to carry wheelchairs are also referred to as chair lifts. However, because a stairlift is essentially a motorised chair that travels up and down the stairs on a rail, you could be forgiven for using this terminology when talking about a stairlift.
Types of stair lifts: Are there stairlifts for spiral or narrow staircases?
The wide range of models for stairs with turns allows us to offer an effective solution even on narrow or spiral staircases. During installation, the best parking position will be determined so as not to inconvenience people who only use the stairs.
What accreditations do Stannah have?
We have a wide range of accreditations, awards and memberships. We ensure that all our products meet the highest standards and regulations. For further information please see our accreditations, awards and memberships.
What happens if I'm not completely satisfied with my stairlift?
In the unlikely event that you're not completely satisfied with your stairlift, we offer a 14 day money back guarantee from the date of installation on all new and reconditioned Stannah stairlifts, purchased direct from us. Unfortunately, this offer is not available in Northern Ireland. See our full terms and conditions here.
What are the dimensions of a stairlift?
Stairlift dimensions can vary depending on the model you choose and the shape of the staircase where it's installed. The width of our stairlifts ranges from 64 to 77 cm (with the seat open), depending on the model.
Stannah stairlifts are space efficient: when folded, the chair takes up no more than 30 cm. For installation, a staircase needs to be at least 80 cm wide. Our consultants will need to conduct a free on site survey to assess the feasibility of installation.
How long do Stannah stairlift batteries last?
Under normal conditions, Stannah stairlift batteries last several years, often over 5 years. The lifespan depends on how the device is used and how typically it is left away from its charging point.
How fast does the stairlift travel?
All our stairlifts move at 0.1 metre per second. The average stairlift length we install is 5.5 metres, so it takes 55 seconds to travel one way.
Will my stair lift be noisy?
No. Stannah stairlifts are very quiet as they have a battery-powered motor, which also ensures a smooth and comfortable ride on your staircase.
How to clean and maintain a Stannah stairlift?
Contact the technical support team for a clear recommendation on how regularly to lubricate the rails of your equipment. The frequency of lubrication depends on the specific type of equipment you have and how regularly you use it. This is typically covered during the installation process.
*When are fast installations available?
Our fast 2 day installations are subject to availability on our Siena 600 stairlifts for straight staircases. With a choice of either walnut, ivory, cranberry or grey upholstery, our powered footrest and powered easy-turn options are included as standard. To take up this offer, please call our contact centre and speak to one of our Stairlift Experts.
Is there a warranty?
Yes. Our new stair lifts come with a two year warranty. And our reconditioned stairlifts come with one year warranty. We also include one free service during each of those first two years.
When will my stair lift be ready for installation?
Throughout our manufacturing process, we have a range of quality and safety checks which involves testing every single stairlift carriage before it leaves our factory to ensure our stairlifts meet our stringent quality criteria.
Our current installation timescales are:
Siena stairlift with no turns - 10 working days from order date
Starla stairlift with no turns - 10 working days from order date on the following upholstery options:
Red, stone and green woven. Beige and brown faux leather. Fully upholstered cocoa and oatmeal.
Estimated installation time from order date on all other Starla upholstery options - 10 - 14 working days
Siena and Starla stairlifts with 1 or 2 turns
Due to the individual nature of a staircase with one or two turns, our curved rails are individually designed and handmade by our skilled craftsmen to ensure the best possible fit on your stairs. It takes around 3 - 4 weeks to manufacture our curved rails, and just a few hours for our engineers to install it at your home.
Our surveyor will be able to give you an estimated installation time when he visits during the survey appointment.
How much does It cost to install a Stairlift?
The installation cost for a Stannah stairlift is included in the unit's purchase price, and no structural alterations to your home are required.
Will I need to pay for a quotation?
Not a penny. We offer a free home survey and will provide you with a no-obligation written quotation that’s clear and easy to understand.
Will I be under any obligation to buy after a sales visit?
