Join our engineering team
‘Acquire the habit of doing everything well’ – one of Joseph Stannah’s rules of life, just as important in our business today as it was when our founder wrote it back in the 1800s. Joseph was an exceptional engineer who turned his hand to everything from hoists and cranes to stuffing boxes for locomotives and lifts for cars. That passion for engineering, for finding solutions, has pervaded the company ever since delivering innovations such as our midilifts and stairlifts. We want to expand our team and are now looking for the best and brightest engineers to join us. If you share our fervour for creating beautifully engineered products that stand the test of time check out our current vacancies or why not join us at one of our engineering open days?

Meet some of the team
Paul, Lead Software Engineer
Paul enjoys working in an environment where new ideas are embraced and developed, “Not all design ideas work out – and when the planned approach doesn’t work, we have to revisit the design, re-examine our assumptions so we can come up with novel alternatives. This has led us to a number of industry leading ideas in electric drives, speed and leveling control with patents pending.”
Cameron, Apprentice Engineer
There are always plenty of challenges as Cameron has found, “The challenges I face are trying to come up with innovative, cost effective and reliable solutions to problems, but ensuring I am adhering to regulations and standards – while also meeting the design requirements. My favourite part about working the job is that I leave work everyday knowing I have learnt something that will make my job easier tomorrow.”
Alexander, Lead Product Designer
Having a clear view of the value a stairlift brings to someone’s life is a constant source of inspiration for Alex, “The challenge to develop a stairlift is commonly underestimated – it requires a huge amount multi-disciplined knowledge to deliver safe, customisable products to users with a wide range of needs and in diverse environments. Knowing and seeing that what we design – a product that gives someone the freedom and reassurance to stay in their own home – can make such a difference to the way people live is very rewarding.”
Jorge, Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Jorge has been working at Stannah since 2011 as product support engineer, “The role gives me the opportunity to face a wide range of projects; solving reliability issues, small size new product introductions or the rare line stopper. You never know what your next challenge will be, but there will always be people that will give you a hand in case you need it.”
Ross, Engineering Director
New to Stannah in 2013, Ross came with high regard for our engineering heritage, “There is a rich and successful history of engineering at Stannah and with that comes a wealth of knowledge within the team, systems and tools. Being able to access this is invaluable and reassuring when making decisions. My role is about ensuring the engineering team have what they need to deliver creative ideas and fantastic products. One day I can be looking at business processes, prototyping technologies, facilities and the next new patents and engineering challenges. This requires me to have understanding of multiple areas and be in touch with the latest technologies and thinking.”
